MCD columnist comes second in “Best Travel Story” competition

Jill was named runner up in the Heritage Hotels Award for the Best Travel Story about New Zealand. Jill received the award for her story Hanging out in the Hunua Ranges which appeared earlier this year in Motorhomes Caravans and Destinations magazine. She was pipped at the post by noted author and conservationist Geoff Chapple.

Jill has been the editor of six magazines including Motorhomes Caravans and Destinations magazine. She has also free-lanced for many New Zealand and overseas publications and written four travel books: An Absolutely Outrageous Adventure; Top Ten Lodges of New Zealand (Random House Publishing, 1995); At Home on the Road, Boutique Lodgings of New Zealand (2002 and 2004) and The Great Kiwi Motorhome Guide which is co-authored by her husband, motoring writer, Bill Savidan. In 2003, her book At Home on the Road won the inaugural Whitcoulls Travel Book of the Year Award.

Jill was joint-founder and a past president of the New Zealand Travel Writers’ Association and has travelled widely in New Zealand, Australia, South America, Africa, and many others countries. She tutors in travel and creative writing at the University of Auckland Continuing Education.
