TrailLite’s great Kiwi road trip

Travelling in a TrailLite Oakura 554 and Benimar Mileo 264, TVNZ Breakfast’s Matty Mclean visited some of the South Island’s favourite motorhome destinations, launching their new and free downloadable e-book—The Great Kiwi Road Trips.

Ashlee Rose, marketing manager for TrailLite, says that some of the locations they visited were perfect self-contained freedom camping spots.

“So many of our customers love the freedom self-contained camping permits, and we wanted to visit some of those locations in motorhomes from our range.

“TrailLite motorhomes are built for self-contained camping and have the fit and finish like no other. Our company’s values are firmly rested on philosophies of craftsmanship, so it was no surprise that the TrailLite Oakura 554 was a pleasure for all to travel in,” Ashlee says.

Hamner Springs

The beautiful tourist town of Hamner Springs has a few great and convenient spots for freedom campers, a TOP 10 holiday park, and some great accommodation for those travelling by car. NZMCA members can stay at the Hamner Springs Motor Lodge for a small fee exchanged for a voucher at the Five Stags Restaurant and Bar. The food and atmosphere make it well worth a look.

Christchurch

Home to TrailLite’s latest and greatest motorhome and caravan branch and, of course, a great destination in its own right. There was lots to do in and around Christchurch and for others considering travelling to the South Island, it could be a great place to start or end your road trip.

Lake Tekapo

The scenery and night star gazing on offer in Lake Tekapo is world-class. While self-contained camping is restricted in the Mackenzie region, including Tekapo township, there are options for self-contained motorhomers and it gave us an opportunity to use the CamperMate app. This location is well worth the visit.

Wanaka

We ended our South Island adventure here, but if time permits, you should choose to continue on. By this stage, Matty was well accustomed to the motorhome lifestyle and like so many others who get a taste through hiring, he just couldn’t get enough of it.

For more inspiration and road trip ideas, download TrailLite’s Great Kiwi Road Trips. If you don’t own a motorhome or caravan, don’t worry. Start exploring and you’ll soon realise the possibilities are endless once motorhome/caravan ownership is on the agenda.

TrailLite’s vast range includes New Zealand- built motorhomes and imported caravans and everything in between. They can help you find the right motorhome or caravan. Or at the very least, will be able to advise you on what you should be looking for.
