Roland’s Wood, Kerikeri

This beautiful four-hectare area of woodlands was gifted to the people of Kerikeri by local man (and dog-lover) Roland Samson, who donated it especially so that dogs could enjoy time off the lead to roam, run and sniff. Each season, the park offers something new to see. Visit over the next few months and enjoy the bluebells, freesias, magnolias and cherry blossoms in bloom.

Big King Reserve, Auckland

This large, off-leash park is popular with Auckland dog owners. The reserve is located at the base of Mt Eden and has a couple of large flat areas as well as lots of hilly terrain for dogs to explore. A great spot for dogs to socialise. Prime time is between 5pm and 6pm.

Waipuna Park/Johnson Reserve, Tauranga

Heading to Tauranga? Plan a stop at Waipuna Park in Welcome Bay. It’s located on Kaitemako Road, and boasts several trails dogs will love, plenty of open spaces, a bush area, and even a waterfall.

Days Park, Hamilton

Mark this one on your map if you’re travelling to, or through, Hamilton. Days Park is located alongside the Waikato River, with parking off River Road. Dogs keen on a swim can enjoy a dip in the river, and there’s plenty of space for them to chase a ball and burn off any excess energy.

Willowbank Reserve, wgtn

Situated alongside the Porirua Stream, this large open park spans 5ha and includes two off-leash dog exercise areas, each offering a big space for dogs to explore. Parking is at the Boscobel Lane entrance.

Renwick Dog Park, Picton

Marlborough’s first dedicated dog park opened just last month. Renwick Dog Park is located on Fox’s Island Road, off SH6 in Renwick (near Blenheim). The park is fenced, with separate areas for large, small and elderly dogs, and a combined area where all can meet and greet. The park has an obstacle course, plus water bowls, bins, and seats.

Victoria Park Dog Park, Christchurch

Surrounded by stunning views of Christchurch, this fully fenced park is a doggy wonderland. Dogs will love exploring up and down the steep ridges and rocky outcrops, and across the grassy field. The park is securely fenced and has drinking water and disposal bins. You’ll find the part at 101 Victoria Park Road in the Port Hills.

Wakari Dog Park, Dunedin

This fantastic park is perfect for dogs and has a variety of features – from hills and valleys to a winding stream in which to cool off, as well as agility training obstacles, an area of bush and several walking tracks. The park area for off-leash dog activities is just over 3ha, so there’s plenty of room for Fidos of all shapes and sizes to run and roam.
