Cherry Mulled Wine

This delicious drink can be served hot or cold. We used blood orange for a more dramatic look, but normal oranges work just as well. This is perfect for sharing with your neighbour!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 bottle red wine
  • 90ml kirsch
  • 10 cloves
  • 2 blood oranges
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

METHOD

  1. Heat red wine, kirsch, cloves, the juice of one orange, star anise,
cinnamon and sugar in a pan until hot but not boiling.
  2. Simmer,
stirring occasionally, for 20 minutes. Allow to cool a little if
drinking hot; if serving cold, allow to cool and refrigerate until
    ready to serve.
  3. Slice your second orange into thin wheels and serve.

TOP TIP: If you’ve got a jar of cherries handy, add a few to
your drink, along with a little of the syrup, for an extra sweet hit.
