The sole Earth Camper unit in New Zealand was on display at the recent NZMCA Hamilton Motorhome, Caravan & Leisure Show and certainly stood out from the crowd.
This innovative concept has been in development for close to a decade, with the original idea born in 2016. The 100% wood-free design is built from durable and repairable fibreglass reinforced polymer (FRP), and is both tough and lightweight; designed for serious adventures.
Built on a one-piece welded exoskeleton chassis that extends from the hitch to the tail, including over the roof, there’s some mega structural strength here coupled with an equally bespoke ARB suspension system, which features one of the longest trailing arms on the market.
The pod-like design is something of a transformer with hidden pockets of storage revealing all the mod cons, including the kitchen sink, which all magically unfold from cleverly designed housings. The rear door transforms to the floor of the living space at the push of a button, revealing a queen bed in the heart of the camper.
Powered by a Redarc battery management system, along with a 100AH lithium battery and 120W solar panel, there are plenty of options for running the kitchen features (the full-size freestanding slide kitchen has been patented by ARB) and the 96L ARB Zero fridge/freezer (plus of course the dual Sirocco fans to keep air circulating at night).
It’s a kit the modern-day Indiana Jones would fully approve of, and proof that ARB’s most ambitious venture yet was well worth the lengthy effort.
