Alexandra Park for Lions campervanners

With Auckland hosting three DHL Lions Series matches in June and July 2017, Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) has worked with Auckland Racing Club and Alexandra Park to arrange pop-up campervan parks at the region’s famed park.

The announcement made on 10 May boosts the city’s ability to host campervanners with at least 200 new sites. This is in addition to the 330 previously available on the infield at Ellerslie Racecourse.

Both sites will be available for the two tests at Eden Park and the Ellerslie pop-up campervan site will also be open during the Blues game.

The parks will help the region cope with the influx of visiting British and Irish Lions fans who enjoy a road trip around New Zealand as their team travels the country. In 2005, the British and Irish Lions tour brought nearly 20,000 visitors to the city.

Alexandra Park will have a range of facilities available to campers at the non-powered sites, including toilets and showers, and on-site licenced premises with meals.

The availability at the park will be limited to 200 on the nights before the All Blacks v Lions tests due to long-scheduled harness racing. However, all 600 will be available for the nights of the games.

The park is also included in the competition for fans who book a campervan site by 31 May. Anyone who books a stay at either Ellerslie Racecourse or Alexandra Park by the end of this month, will go in the draw to win a prize pack for two, which includes entry to Sky Tower, a Whale and Dolphin Safari, rugby merchandise, and the chance to win back a two-night stay at the campervan park.
