Susan and Matt Smit were already familiar with New Zealand before they moved from the Netherlands a few years ago. They had travelled the country in a campervan several times before and it was a no brainer for them to buy one of their own as soon as they arrived. Before starting their jobs, Susan and Matt travelled the North Island in “SuzyQ”, their beloved camper named after Susan’s nickname and her father’s favourite song. “The idea of owning a van and being able to make trips from Christchurch to the many surrounding hot spots was very exciting for us.” The Smit’s used “SuzyQ” whenever they had a few days off. They would explore the surroundings of Christchurch during the week and outside of school holidays. During longer trips they would take “SuzyQ” around the North Island.

With the arrival of their daughter their life has changed

Now that their daughter has started school, they are restricted to the school holidays and can’t go away as often as they would like. Susan’s parents enjoy staying in the campervan when they come over from the Netherlands, but now “SuzyQ” is parked up the driveway for a large part of the year. This is why the Smit’s recently got involved with SHAREaCAMPER Personalise listings with additional service and items “We like to cater for every need and give our travellers add-ons they can book. We both enjoy sharing our experiences and knowhow of the best routes and hidden gems, including travel Apps and guide books and maps. We still feel like tourists ourselves in this beautiful country and like helping travellers plan and personalise their route.” The Smit’s also offer additional options to book with their campervan for travellers, such as a tent with sleeping bag and mat for a third traveler, a skottel brei (South African outdoor wok on a gas bottle) and sports gear. “Being involved means we get to experience some of the travel fun too”. Being part of the SHAREaCAMPER community means they can rent “SuzyQ“ out at times when the vehicle would otherwise be unused. The income this generates helps Matt and Susan with keeping the maintenance at a high level and helps in saving towards an upgrade to a “Super SuzyQ.”
