• The 8.53m Monaco is a new model in Sunliner’s ‘Provincial’ range, being the same length as the previously reviewed Sunrise but shorter than the top-of-the-range Monte Carlo.
• The Monaco provides the comforts of home, such as a permanent island bed, separate shower cubicle, and adequate lounge and dining areas in a compact motorhome.
• This model has a GVM of 6500kg, tare weight, including full fresh water and fuel tanks, of 4900kg, and is accepted by most NZ motor camps and NZMCA POP properties.
• The exterior fibreglass panels are combined with insulation foam sheeting, plywood and adhesive in a nine-metre long press to produce a very rigid, yet light wall panel.
• The standard slide-out wall in the lounge is a practical feature that provides a spacious lounge and cosy dining.

The slide-out wall in the lounge is standard on the Monaco. With the slide-out extended, the width between the twin settees increases from 700mm to 1150mm and the lounge becomes a room rather than a corridor. The dining table that sits in front of the kerbside settee can comfortably accommodate four diners. The layout of the bathroom is practical, with the central basin and toilet to the left and shower cubicle to the right. The shower cubicle has a fan hatch, a rail for hanging wet clothes and an oversize drain that should allow the water to drain, even on a slope. There is a double 240-volt power point, and a 12-volt one as well. The queen size bed pulls out from the wall, increasing the length for sleeping. It has an inner sprung mattress over timber slats and can be raised, with gas strut assistance, to access the storage below. The washing machine, a Lemair top-loader, sits in the full height cupboard next to the wardrobe. There is a Daewoo microwave, slide-out pantry, range hood and ample cupboards.. Larger options than the Triplex 3 gas hob top and oven without a separate griller selected for the review model, are available. Dometic windows are fitted all round and they have built in blinds and insect screens, as have the ceiling hatches in the lounge, kitchen and bedroom. Climate control is handled by the roof-mounted reverse cycle air conditioner. Outside, the Monaco has a five-metre electrically powered Dometic awning, outdoor speakers for entertainment, and an awning light that is directly above the slide-out BBQ. Beside the ‘barbie’ is a fridge drawer. The retail price of the Monaco reviewed is $257,000 inc GST.
