Landmark Oakura 758X Review

Claire Smith discovers the Landmark Oakura 758X from TrailLite is a fine example of Kiwi-made excellence.

TrailLite’s 700 series was developed with the aim of giving Kiwi travellers the best of both worlds – getting away from it all in your own five-star accommodation. Or, as TrailLite would say, “where luxury meets adventure”.

For those new to the brand, TrailLite is a family-based business who have been building in New Zealand – Pukekohe in South Auckland to be exact – since 1954. More than 65 years on, the business is New Zealand’s leading motorhome and caravan manufacturer and retailer.

Building with TrailLite gives you options. The 300 series, 500 series and 700 series all have their choice of floorplans/layouts and optional upgrades on the 500 and 700 mean you can make it a ‘Landmark’ and enjoy the ultimate upgrade experience.

What does that mean? I checked out a Landmark 758X Oakura to understand that. It’s less about the specification, a TrailLite is class leading in that regard, but the Landmark upgrade is all about the look and feel. You walk in and it’s lush, luxury, it’s one of a kind. You can see the difference in the fit and finish but also the choice of interior colour schemes elevates the opportunity from your standard choice of four options to endless options. The style and sophistication of sitting down for a consultation with an interior designer really shows when you see the luxury style through these motorhomes.

Layout

As you step into the living area, the first impression is of comfort and quality. The next is just how spacious the interior is. That’s in good part due to the extra space afforded by the kitchen slide out – a nifty invention that allows a section of the interior to extend outward once you’re parked up. The L-shaped dinette sits opposite the kitchen with a split bathroom leading into the rear bedroom.

Dining and cooking

The kitchen is tastefully appointed and features high quality soft-close cabinetry. With the Landmark upgrade, buyers can choose from two choices of wallpaper to complement the interior colours. In a stroke of design brilliance, TrailLite have opted for handle-free drawers rather than cupboards in the kitchen, making it so much easier to access everything you need and allowing better utilisation of space. Extras such as a slide out double rubbish bin, twin cutlery drawers, pullout condiment pantries, and a water filter all add to that home-away-from-home feeling. For cooking up your favourite on-the-road meals, a four-burner gas hob, compact oven, and separate grill should do the trick nicely. A stainless steel range hood, microwave and fully automatic three-way 190L fridge/freezer complete the kitchen.

Dinette

Taking a seat at the dinette table feels like being wrapped in comfort. It really is a very inviting spot to relax with a glass of wine and a book, or to sneak in an afternoon snooze. Furnishings are customisable with the Landmark upgrade, and there are some great options available. There’s room for four around the dining table which has sliding functionality and is height adjustable. One of the clever additions to the dinette is, at first glance, totally hidden from view. The TV (with matching soundbar) slides away discreetly into a compact cupboard on the far side of the kitchen bench. It makes for perfect positioning for evening viewing from the dinette.

Bathroom

As mentioned earlier, the bathroom offers a ‘split’ layout, with the toilet and premium vanity – including a glass bathroom basin – on one side and the fully contained separate shower to the other. It’s a great layout that provides a drying off space in the middle and much needed room to move while you’re getting changed. A clever addition is the swinging door which meets with the kitchen divider to close off the bedroom from the living area.

Sleeping

Having a separate bedroom, with a permanently made-up queen bed that’s easily accessible from both sides combines to tick the bedroom wish-list for many motorhomers. Add in the Landmark touches like personalised linen and bedding, a plush headboard, plus a premium New Zealand-made memory foam mattress, bedside wireless charging pads, and you could easily think you’re in a five-star hotel. Six drawers beneath the bed are ideal for tidily tucking away your holiday gear, plus there’s a compact wardrobe, a small drawer, and space for parking your coffee and ginger nuts on each side of the bed. Oh, and of course, no luxury bedroom space would be complete without a decent TV to catch up on your favourite series – the Landmark Oakura 758X has the option of upgrading to a TV in the bedroom. For extra sleepers, the dinette easily converts to an equally comfy double bed.
