Dethleffs Just 90 T6762 Review

Light, bright and with plenty of appeal for families, the new Dethleffs Just 90 T6762 is just perfect for entry-level motorhoming, says MCD writer Claire Smith.

Available in six layouts, the new Dethleffs Just 90 is positioned as a quality, entry-level motorhome. The design is modern and fresh, which appeals to the increasing numbers of younger travellers who are taking up the motorhoming lifestyle. The range includes a configuration to suit couples and families including a fixed north-south double bed, twin singles, and the dropdown-only 6762 model reviewed here.

Layout and decor

At 6.96 metres, the Dethleffs Just 90 T6762 motorhome is the second smallest model in the range. It offers a dropdown bed over the front dinette, a centrally located kitchen, and a rear full-width bathroom. Built on the popular Fiat Ducato chassis, it’s a popular layout with travelling couples, providing plenty of usable space by day.

A generously-sized push-open window above the cab, large windows on either side of the settee, and the use of LED downlights throughout add to the sense of light and spaciousness. The spots lights have touch functionality too, so you can choose which ones you want on or off.

The elegant interior is modern and fresh, with contemporary tones of grey, white, and light timber. The lockers are handle-free, which makes them not only sleek in appearance, but also easy to wipe down and clean. The lockers and drawers all include soft-close mechanisms — one of those seemingly small things that make a big difference to the overall sense of quality and convenience.

The cab

Upfront, the cab includes the latest suite of technology, including a 7-inch Kenwood stereo with CarPlay and reverse camera, air conditioning, ABS, crosswind assist, cruise control, hill hold, traction control, and, a good selection of cup holders — always useful.

The driver and passenger seats are designed for comfort, with an integrated headrest and two armrests. But most importantly, they both swivel fully to face the living area which allows for valuable extra seating in the dining area if you have a couple of campsite guests pop over for dinner.

Dining and cooking

The dining area features face-to-face settees — the kerbside one being slightly longer — with an adjustable table in between. Upholstered in ‘Metropolitan’ grey, the seats are suitably comfy, with space enough for five (plus the cab seats). The table is easily adjusted for height preference, and can be folded in half to provide a decent amount of space to walk from the cab through the living area.

Sitting above the dinette is the dropdown double bed (more on that later), but for extra passengers, the dining area converts into an additional big and comfy bed: pop the table out, add in the slat and extra cushion from the storage below the settees, and voila… the extra bed is made.

Alongside the dinette is the cooking zone which is conveniently compact but well set up with a two-burner gas hob and a sink which is integrated into the bench. Dethleffs does a good job of adding in those little extras that make a difference to your day-to-day living, such as the rail hangers on the wall for tea towels, a small splashback alongside the cooktop, and a shelf set for holding your oft-used herbs, spices and condiments.

For storage, the two overhead lockers are nice and deep, and will hold a good swag of food or plateware. Beneath the bench, you have four drawers for cutlery and cookware and a couple of cupboards.

Opposite the kitchen bench is the fridge. And it’s big! No bending down to try and jam the leftovers into the last remaining breath of space in an annoyingly mimalist under-bench unit. At 142-litres with a 15-litre freezer, this fridge will hold enough food and drink for a week or more away; perfect for when you want to stock up economically and keep everything cool.

Sleeping

Sitting unobtrusively against the ceiling over the dinette, the Just 90’s dropdown bed can be lowered to your choice of positions. At its lowest position of 0.84m, it sits right on top of the settee cushions, or, if you’ve got extra sleepers using the settees as a bed conversion, it can sit higher and be accessed with the supplied ladder. At 2m x 1.5 metres, the bed is roomy enough for the average-sized Kiwi, and with a thick 15cm mattress, it’s nice and comfy too.

Bathroom

At the rear, the bathroom extends across the full width, with the separate shower kerbside, and the Dometic toilet and vanity opposite; in between, a generously sized mirrored wall cabinet. There’s another mirrored cabinet over the vanity, with a cupboard below and a good selection of shelving. The shower is roomy with a removable sliding shower head, soap/shampoo cubbies, a towel rail, and a real wood shower grid in the base. Like the rest of the motorhome, the bathroom is bright, modern and makes great use of space.

Exterior

Outside, the front has a new modern t-hood which houses that large roof window that lets so much light into the interior. The wide 70cm habitation door — now standard on all Dethleffs vehicles — includes a window and shade as standard, and is connected to the Ducato central locking system. The roomy rear garage opens from both sides, and includes an anti-slip covering and locking rings to secure gear.

Included as standard

The Just 90 T6762 is available from Zion Motorhomes in Pokeno, who provide a nice selection of accessories as standard including 200W solar, a Thule awning, KiwiSat automatic satellite dish, 19” Avtex LED TV, and the 7” Kenwood CarPlay stereo with GPS and reverse camera as mentioned earlier.

Summary

Priced from $166,000, the Just 90 T6762 is a very pleasant, well-specced motorhome for young families or couples looking for a comfortable foray into the RV lifestyle without compromising on quality. Dethleffs owners are a brand-loyal bunch, and they are well trusted and well-loved in New Zealand.
