French 75 Cocktail

Citrussy and slightly sweet, the French 75 Cocktail dates back to World War I, and is a great alternative to the mimosa on Christmas morning.

Ingredients

  • 45ml gin
  • 25ml fresh lemon juice
  • 25ml simple syrup
  • 100ml chilled Champagne or prosecco (enough to top the glass)
  • Lemon peel, for garnish

Method

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in the gin, lemon juice and simple syrup. Securely fasten the cap on the shaker and shake until it is well chilled, about 20 seconds or so. Strain the liquid into Champagne glasses and top with Champagne. Twist your lemon peel and hold it for a few seconds so that it retains its shape. Garnish your glass with the lemon twist, and enjoy.
