Chilli, Lime & Mango Margarita

How good does this sound? Nobody really knows the origins of the margarita, although it’s thought to have been created in Tijuana, Mexico by restaurateur Carlos ‘Danny’ Herrera for a customer who was allergic to all alcohol except tequila.

Yeah, right…

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 ripe mango
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 60ml tequila
  • 15ml triple sec
  • Dash hot sauce (optional)

FOR THE CHILLI RIM:

  • 1 lime wedge
  • 1 teaspoon chilli powder
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon sea salt flakes

METHOD:

  1. Add all margarita ingredients to a blender and blend
    until smooth.
  2. Taste and adjust sweetness if required.
  3. Transfer the mix to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake
    vigorously.
  4. Moisten the rim of the glass using the lime
wedge, then dip in the salt/chilli powder mix until it sticks
    to the rim.
  5. Add ice to the glass, pour in the margarita and
serve with a lime wheel or wedge.
