With exciting new sculptures recently unveiled, this magnificent landscape now offers around 70 sculptures by New Zealand artists. Each is perfectly positioned in a beautiful natural setting, making for a captivating and dynamic summer adventure.
Sustainability and biodiversity are woven into the fabric of the 150-acre property, which also includes hand-tended vines, stunning birdlife and a working farm.
Large parts of the property are established native bush, with stands of ancient kauri, as well as significant streams and wetlands, ponds and lakes. New planting projects are continuously underway to enhance biodiversity. Rolling pasture is used to farm sheep, producing our free-range lamb. The orchards and gardens produce fruit, oil, nuts and vegetables to use in The Glass House Restaurant.
A site-specific design project inspired by the historical use of the region – agriculture, horticulture and viticulture, The Glass House Restaurant is (as the name suggests) is a contemporary version of a glasshouse, offering brunch, lunch, dinner and dessert menus, featuring ingredients grown on the property, as well as exclusive new release boutique wines from its established vineyard.
Brick Bay general manager Fiona Stewart says Brick Bay is a destination in itself for those in the know, with its rare combination of accessible art, food, wine, and natural beauty.
“We’re excited to create even more reasons for people to discover or come back to visit again by continuously refreshing our art and offering a range of the other experiences,” she says.
Three of the newest artworks joining Brick Bay’s sculpture trail for summer are: Consequence Sequence by Auckland-based artist Seung Yul Oh; Paper Pals by Hawke’s Bay-based artist Ben Pearce; and Stumping Ground, by Wellington-based artist Turumeke Harrington (Kāi Tahu, Rangitāne).
Art manager Rachael Lovelace says Brick Bay is proud to foster the careers of New Zealand sculptors by continuously adding new works to the sculpture trail as other artworks exhibited are sold.
“While our sculpture trail is an art gallery, with all of the art available for sale, it offers something for everyone – even those who are not art afficionados – as an immersive experience and a place to pause, marvel, and reflect on the beauty and symbiosis of nature and art.”
