When Hayley Whiting decided to utilise bags of fabric scraps she had left over from garment construction over the years, she hit upon the idea of repurposing them into a vibrant range of cross-body bags.
“The scraps were just too pretty to throw away and I wanted to design something useful and utilise my degree and career in the fashion-design industry.’
The busy mother-of-three turned to her trusty sewing machine, and armed with much enthusiasm and creativity, the new collection of River of Mischief bags were born.
Every bag is hand made in Nelson, where Hayley stitches pieces of scrap together to create a new piece of cloth. This is then quilted and made into a cross-body bag, with no two designs the same.
Her focus on quality control is absolute and these carefully crafted bags are perfect for busy parents or grandparents who need their hands free when adventuring with children, as well as anyone who loves to travel and explore, offering a handy place to store your keys, phone and any other bits and pieces.
